Vision Casting: How To Build a Business You Love From Day One

vision-casting

If you’re interested in learning how to build a business you love, you need to know Shaun McCloskey. His method of vision casting is foundational not only to his own real estate investing business, but is a key ingredient in the success of his many coaching clients.

Shaun is an expert in short sales who has done several hundred transactions over the years and has taught thousands of other investors how to master this strategy.

He is also a trainer’s trainer and runs Leadership Boardroom; a high-level mastermind program where he works with 50+ of the top speakers and trainers across the country.

Suffice it to say, he knows his stuff.

Here at REI Blackbook, one of the ways we love to serve investors most is through our REI Bootcamp events.  These are live workshops that take you from chaos to clarity and teach you how to predictably grow your real estate investing business – with or without you.

We bring in expert trainers from all walks of the real estate investing industry for these events and today, I want to share Shaun’s incredible session on the 4 Stages to Building an Insanely Profitable Business You Love.

You can feel free to watch the whole thing right here:

OR we’ve also broken it up into smaller, digestible pieces for you..

Either way, we’ve made every resource available for you to get all the goodness out of Shaun’s approach to starting a business and creating a business structure you LOVE from day one.

How To Grow Your Business So it Serves YOU

Throughout the training, Shaun will take you through a series of resources and tools to help you identify your own unique zones of genius (IE: what are the things you are actually good at AND enjoy doing).

More importantly, he’ll help you identify what you’re NOT good at and what you don’t enjoy (so you can avoid it at all costs).

In this first clip, he highlights how a successful business is going to look differently for everybody.

Do you want to be a very hands-on small business owner?

Do you love the idea of being the operator of your business day-to-day? Brainstorming the marketing strategy, executing the marketing plan, getting on the phone with the people in your target market to educate them about your product or service?

Or do you think it’s a good idea to have a team so you’re free to spend more time with your friends and family?

Neither business idea is wrong…it all comes down to what is right for you.

How an 80 Deal Per Year Business Made Shaun Miserable

In this clip, Shaun talks about how he followed the business plan of his mentor’s to the letter and while he was very successful from the outside looking in, he realized it was not at all the business he wanted.

When choosing a business mentor, it’s important to not only choose somebody who has the kind of business you want, but somebody who’s life and values reflect your own.

Shawn actually befriended his mentor and found out one day that maybe he didn’t want a business and life that was just like his after all…

4 Stages to Building an Insanely Profitable Business You Love

Business has to be profitable.

Business SHOULD fund your life.

It SHOULDN’T take over your life.

And if you want to grow your business in a way that ensures it will be profitable and that you absolutely love, you must follow these 4 stages:

Now let’s dig into each of these 4 stages a little more…

Stage 1: Dare to Dream

How do you create vision?

Whether you are just starting a business, or have been in business for a number of years already, vision casting is the most important thing you must understand or you will fail.

There are several crucial principles you must understand:

  1. Having goals is not the same as having vision.
  2. When casting a vision for your life and business, you must “burn down” everything and everybody else in your life.
  3. You must dream without filters.

Stage 2: Know Thyself

You must know who you are, what you’re good at, and what YOU should be spending the majority of your time actually doing inside of your business.

Are you a business owner or a business operator?

Is where you’re spending your time in your business in alignment with your skillset?

Don’t lie to yourself about what you are or are not.

Watch this video for some of Shaun’s favorite resources to identify your unique gifts and personality traits.

Stage 3: Define Where You Are Now

You must know where you are starting from in order to create a clear plan for where you are going in your business;

Especially when it comes to expanding your team (should you wish to do so).

One key thing to remember:

Never hire somebody for a position in your business that doesn’t already exist.

(No matter how talented they are or how excited you are to work with them.)

You must first have a clear vision of a position and exactly what you want to accomplish with it within your business before you conduct interviews.

Even seasoned business owners like Shaun can fall prey to this temptation:

Stage 4: Bridge the Gap

You must identify what you need right now in order to get from where you are to where you want to be.

Always ask yourself;

Is there a simpler or faster way for me to get from where I am to where I want to be?

Seek advice from people you trust who can see things that maybe you can’t.

Remember, the quality of your life and business are directly related to and determined by the expectations of your peers.

The late, great Jim Rohn said it best:

“You are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”

If you want to upgrade your business, always look for how you can upgrade your environment and the company you keep.

Oh, and TAKE MASSIVE ACTION.

Watch this video for actionable details from Shaun about the fastest way to bridge the gap when building your business.
